Here are three networked safety related activities for you to enjoy.

Activity 1 - Diigo

  1. Review Diigo and the benefits of using a social bookmarking site.
  2. Send invites or have the students to go Diigo and register.
  3. Once they have confirmed their account, direct them to the 7th Grade Safety Diigo Group.
  4. Have each student apply to join the group.
  5. Demonstrate to the student how to find an appropriate site and bookmark it in Diigo.
  6. Have the student search the internet and find safety related articles, videos, and webpages.
  7. Each student should submit at least five (5) quality bookmarks to the group site.


Activity 2 - Wiki

  1. Introduce wikis and talk about this particular wiki project.
  2. Send invites or have the students go to Wikispaces and register.
  3. Once they have confirmed their account, direct them to the 7th Grade Safety Wiki.
  4. Have them click "Join this Wiki" to become members of the class wiki.
  5. Split the class into groups and assign each group a machine's page.
  6. Have them collect information and media and bring it into their wiki page.
  7. When all the pages are done, review each of the pages with the entire class.


Activity 3 - VoiceThread

  1. Introduce and show an example of VoiceThread.
  2. Have the students sign up for an account and verify it.
  3. Instruct the students to search the internet for at least five (5) appropriate images that show dangerous situations.
  4. The students are to use these images and create a Safety VoiceThread.
  5. Direct the student to the wiki and have them add a link to their VoiceThread.
  6. Have each student comment on each VoiceThread sharing one of the following about each image:
    1. What is the safety concern in each image?
    2. What should be done to prevent an injury from happening?
    3. How can hazards like this be prevented?
